What is the future of missions in Mexico?<\/strong> Our understanding of the word \u201cmissions\u201d is fundamental to answering that question. When we speak of missions as evangelical, Bible-believing Christians, we understand that missions finds it definition, clarity, and direction in the Great Commission that Jesus gives His church.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, \u201cAll authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.\u201cGo therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.\u201d\u201d (Matthew 28:18\u201320 NAS95) Each and every Christian has the responsibility to respond in obedience to this Biblical mandate of making disciples who will, in turn, make more disciples. The apostle Paul understood the importance of this command as reflected in the way he instructed Timothy to train leaders in the New Testament church. (2 Tim. 2:2)<\/p>\n NCI is committed to preaching and teaching this gospel message that the eternal Son of God took on flesh and lived a life of perfect obedience and then died a death He didn\u2019t deserve in the place of all of us who don\u2019t deserve Gods\u2019 favor, but rather God\u2019s judgment. But Jesus Christ took our place as a substitute for all of us who would turn from our sins and trust in Him. God raised Him from the dead and He ascended to heaven and God accepted the sacrifice of His Son and today He calls us all to repent and believe. This powerful and simple message remains the singular hope of Mexico. As the church in Mexico experiences the joy of third and fourth generation believers and national church plants the strategy of the foreign missionary continues to adapt to these changes.<\/p>\n While the need remains to plant new churches, train national leaders, and employ creative strategies for sharing the gospel, the changing face of missions gives the foreign missionary the privilege of working alongside the Mexican church.<\/p>\n The model in the past was largely, “I am ministering to<\/em> you.” Now, it is “I am ministering with<\/em> you.” There will be times when the gospel message will be shared from one missionary to one national but there will likely be more opportunities to serve alongside<\/em> the national church in sharing the message of the gospel and making disciples.<\/p>\n Evangelical Christianity in Mexico is still relatively young and can greatly benefit from the outside influence of foreign missionaries but the Mexican church also has much to teach those who come to Mexico if they are willing to learn. Perhaps the greatest contribution the foreign missionary can continue to make to the cause of global missions in Mexico is to faithfully preach the pure, unadulterated gospel message and walk in a manner that is worthy of that message.<\/p>\n Would you pray with us for an awakening of the gospel message in Mexico that would result in true and lasting change?
