About Us
New Church Initiatives (NCI) is a U.S. based, 501 (c) 3 non-profit ministry that partners with individuals, churches, denominations, and other organizations that want to multiply churches.
We look for ministry partners who we can come alongside in order to help them accelerate church multiplication.
NCI exists to accelerate church multiplication! Why is this important? We believe that church multiplication is:
- the most effective way to fulfill the Great Commission,
- a biblical strategy for advancing God’s Kingdom on earth, and
- God’s plan for transforming the world!
WHO ARE WE?
NCI is a hands-on, "grassroots" coaching, consulting, and training ministry that provides missiological insight and perspective for a wide range of church models in a wide range of cultural contexts.
NCI is an aggressive learning organization, a thought leader who can provide guidance, new processes, new methods, and new understanding.
NCI is an organization that values strategic partnerships, missional ecclesiology, kingdom perspective, and lifelong learning.
NCI seeks to establish reproducing churches; we hope to establish a church planting movement everywhere we serve.
OUR HISTORY
NCI grew out of the ministry of The Church at Sugar Creek in Sugar Land, Texas, a suburb of Houston. In the fall of 2001, after leading Sugar Creek in the planting of over 50churches, Glenn Smith left the church staff to begin NCI. Glenn, an experienced church planter even prior to coming to Sugar Creek, felt God’s calling to serve the larger Body of Christ by creating this interdenominational ministry.
With the support of Sugar Creek, as well as many other ministries in Texas, Glenn began to develop staff and team associates to offer assessment, training, and coaching for church planters. He also began offering consulting to churches and organizations that wanted to engage in church planting. God quickly began opening doors to study and train internationally. NCI is now ministering throughout North America and in several countries outside the U.S.
To date, the NCI team has assessed over 500 church planters, trained several thousand, and continues to assess, train, or coach several hundred church planting leaders every year. We have discovered that when planters are properly assessed, well trained, and well coached, their churches almost always thrive!
WHAT’S UNIQUE ABOUT NCI?
Our assessment and training is based on biblical principles and the latest cultural and missiological research. Our training comes from a global perspective. We do not teach a particular “model” but offer principles of design that will enable church planters to know themselves, know their context, and create a unique model that fits how God has gifted them and connects with the people they are trying to reach. We believe that the Kingdom of God is big, and that it takes all kinds of churches to reach all kinds of people.
OUR VISION
Our dream is to reverse the diminishing presence and influence of the church in Western society and around the world.
We want to help established churches refocus and become missional churches that produce transformed Christ-followers who engage their communities and bring others to faith in Christ. We want to help the established churches also begin to grow by conversion and plant new types of churches that will enable them to reach their diverse and complex cities.
We want to enable churches and church planting organizations to be more effective at starting new churches, and also start better churches that have a transformational impact both locally and globally.
We want to help churches embrace the challenges of the 21st century and turn the emerging trends into opportunities to engage disillusioned church members and make missional disciples who use their vocations and spheres of influence to advance the kingdom of God and impact the world.
